Friends of Monte Vista Montessori ("Friends of MVM," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through FriendsofMVM.net (the "Site"), how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies alongside our Terms and Conditions.

We do not require you to create an account to use the Site.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide to us directly, such as when you:

  • Make a donation (name, email address, mailing address, and donation amount — see Section 2 on payment information)

  • Register for an event (name, email address, phone number, and, where relevant, the name/age of a child attending)

  • Contact us through a form, email, or phone

  • Sign up for a newsletter or mailing list

Information collected automatically, such as:

  • IP address, browser type, device type, and operating system

  • Pages viewed, time spent on the Site, and referring/exit pages

  • Cookies and similar technologies (see Section 5)

We do not knowingly collect information directly from children through the Site. Any information about a student (such as a child's name provided for event headcount purposes) is submitted by a parent or guardian, not by the child.

2. Payment Information

Donations and event fees are processed by a third-party payment processor (e.g., Stripe, PayPal, or a similar provider) (the "Payment Processor"). We do not collect or store your full credit card, debit card, or bank account numbers on our own systems — that information goes directly to the Payment Processor and is handled under its own privacy policy and security practices, which we encourage you to review. We may receive limited transaction information from the Payment Processor, such as your name, email address, donation/fee amount, and date, for our own recordkeeping and receipting.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Process donations and issue donation receipts

  • Register you for events and communicate logistics (schedule changes, reminders, etc.)

  • Respond to your questions or requests

  • Send newsletters or updates about Friends of MVM, if you've opted in

  • Maintain internal records for accounting, fundraising planning, and reporting to our board

  • Improve the Site and understand how it's used

  • Comply with legal obligations and protect against fraud or misuse of the Site

We do not use your information to make automated decisions that have a legal or similarly significant effect on you.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these circumstances:

  • Service providers. With vendors who help us operate the Site and our programs, such as our Payment Processor, email/newsletter platform, and website hosting provider — solely to perform services on our behalf.

  • Monte Vista Montessori. With the school, where necessary to coordinate events or fundraising efforts, limited to what's needed for that purpose.

  • Legal requirements. If required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Friends of MVM, our community, or others.

  • Business transitions. If Friends of MVM reorganizes or transfers its operations, information may be transferred as part of that process, subject to this Policy or a successor policy.

  • With your consent. For any other purpose disclosed to you at the time of collection or with your consent.

5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The Site may use cookies and similar technologies to remember preferences, understand Site traffic, and support features like event registration and donation forms. You can control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting them; doing so may affect how some parts of the Site function. We may use third-party analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) that use cookies to help us understand Site usage; these tools have their own privacy policies governing their use of information.

We retain personal information for as long as needed to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy — for example, donor records are typically retained for accounting and tax purposes, and event registration information is generally retained only as long as needed to plan and follow up on the event, unless a longer period is required by law or reasonably needed for our organizational records.

7. Your Choices and Rights

  • Newsletter/communications. You may opt out of non-essential email communications at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our emails or contacting us at [EMAIL].

  • Access, correction, or deletion. You may contact us to ask about the personal information we hold about you, request a correction, or request deletion, and we will respond as reasonably practicable. Some information (such as donation records) may need to be retained for legal or accounting purposes even after a deletion request.

  • Payment information. Requests relating to payment card or bank data should be directed to the Payment Processor in accordance with its own policies, since we do not hold that information ourselves.

Friends of MVM is a nonprofit organization, and applicable privacy laws (such as the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act) generally exempt nonprofit organizations of our type. We're nonetheless committed to handling your information responsibly and will honor reasonable requests consistent with this Policy.

8. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect the personal information we hold, and we rely on reputable third-party providers (such as our Payment Processor and hosting provider) who maintain their own security measures. However, no method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Third-Party Links

The Site may link to third-party websites, including our Payment Processor, social media platforms, or the Monte Vista Montessori school website. This Policy does not apply to those third-party sites, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies separately.

10. Children's Privacy

The Site is intended for use by parents, guardians, and other adults in our community. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If we become aware that a child has provided us with personal information directly (rather than through a parent or guardian), we will take steps to delete it. 11. Texas Residents

Friends of MVM is based in Bexar County, Texas. As a nonprofit organization, we are generally exempt from the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act (TDPSA) and similar state consumer privacy laws that apply to for-profit entities. We nonetheless aim to be transparent about our data practices as described throughout this Policy. If you have questions or requests regarding your information, please contact us using the information in Section 13.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent revision. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice, such as a notice posted on the Site. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
